We’re not Afraid!

Link: We’re not Afraid!.

This is a project of the guy who took the picture in subway with camera phone.

We are not afraid to ride public transportation.

We are not afraid to walk down a crowded street.

We are not afraid of each other.

We are not afraid to say that terrorism in any form is never the answer.

We’re not afraid is an outlet for the global community to speak out against the acts of terror that have struck London, Madrid, New York, Baghdad, Bazra, Tikkut, Gaza, Tel-Aviv, Afghanistan, Bali, and against the atrocities occurring in cities around the world each and every day. It is a worldwide action for people not willing to be cowed by terrorism and fear mongering.

The historical response to these types of attacks has been a show of deadly force; we believe that there is a better way. We refuse to respond to aggression and hatred in kind. Instead, we who are not afraid will continue to live our lives the best way we know how. We will work, we will play, we will laugh, we will live. We will not waste one moment, nor sacrifice one bit of our freedom, because of fear.

We are not afraid.

The site has collected hundreds of "We are not affraid" pictures like the terrorism advisory by Romo.

To kick-off EFF's forthcoming 15th Anniversary celebrations, we'll be holding a special BayFF exploring the legal issues surrounding blogging.  The roundtable discussion will feature EFF Staff Attorney Kurt Opsahl, local bloggers, and companies that create blogging tools.

I just signed for the event that is going to be tomorrow at SF. A lot of interesting people talking.

Free as in Free beer

Link: ..::...Vores ØL...::...

Vores_beerWe are "Vores ØL Group", a group of students at the IT-University in Copenhagen and have created Our Beer in collaboration with Superflex as an experiment in applying modern open source ideas and methods on a traditional real-world product (beer).

Recipe for approx. 85 ltr. Vores Øl (Our Beer) (approx. 6% alchohol by volume).

Malt extract

For Vores Øl we use four types malted barley:

  • 6 kg pilsner malt
  • 4 kg münsner malt
  • 1 kg caramel malt
  • 1 kg lager malt

The malt is crushed and put in 55-60°C hot water for 1-2 hours.

The mixture is filtered and the liquid now contains about 10 kg malt extract.

Taste and sugar

Besides malt we use:

  • 60 g Tetnang bitter hops
  • 50 g Hallertaver aroma hops
  • 300 g Guarana beans
  • 4 kg sugar

(Guarana beans can typically be bought at health food stores).

The malt extact is brought to a boil in a large pot with the hops and approx. 70 ltr. of water.

After half an hour, the Guarana beans and sugar is added.

The mixture simmers for about an hour, and is then filtered and cooled in a sealed container.

Fermentation

Yeast is added and the beer is fermented at room temperature for approx. 2 weeks.

When the beer is fully fermentet it is transferred to bottles. First 4 g sugar is added per liter and some yeast from the bottom of the fermentation tanks for priming.

Vores Øl is then left in the bottles at room temperature for 8-10 days for carbonation. Then the beer is ready to enjoy; cold and refreshing.

Joke is over!

A online joke site is down. It was accused of distributing antisemitist jokes. Apparently the aim of the site was to collect all the jokes possible to the site. The site had several categories and one of them was jokes about jews. He is commenting the takedown on his site:

Syynä tähän on saamani syyte "kiihotuksesta kansanryhmiä vastaan". Koska sivuston alkuperäinen tarkoitus, kerätä kaikki mahdolliset vitsit näille sivuille on mahdotonta, en näe muuta mahdollisuutta kuin lopettaa sivuston ylläpito. Sensuroitua sivustoa en halua alkaa ylläpitämään, huomenna kun ruotsalaiset tai blondit voivat nostaa syytteen minua vastaan.

You can find the site on Internet Archive

Here is one from jewish jokes website

There was an amazing accident involving a Rabbi and a Priest. The cars are completetly shaterred though the Rabbi and the Preist don't even bare a scratch on them The Preists looks at the rabbi's kippa and says:
"Oh You're a Rabbi"
Then the Rabbi looks at the Preists collar and says:
"Oh You're a Priest"
"Yes" Amswered the Priest
"Well look at this both of our cars are shattered to bits, but none of us bare a scratch this must be a sign of G-D that we should be friends"
"Yes this is a sign" exclaimed the Priest
The Rabbi notices in his car that a wine bottle with a Mogen David on it isn't broken"
"Look" The rabbi points to the bottle, he continues "My wine bottle isn't shattered this must be a sign from G-D that we should drink this to commemerate that we are friends"
"Yes this must be a sign" says the priest who takes the bottle from the Rabbi's car and starts to drink until he is half-way done with the bottle then hands it to the rabbi, where the Rabbi takes it and closes the bottle.
"Aren't you going to have a sip Rabbi"
"Nahh..... I think I'll wait for the police"

RMS has withdrawn explicit support for the Creative Commons project (though he recognizes it is a “better” option than the mainstream) because CC has added several new licence options (to the original six), at least one of which, in rms’s view, do not do an adequate job of protecting freedom.

Uh. Lessig sits inthe board of FSF. Knowing the absolute dedication of RMS this came as no surprise. I do agree that CC is drifting away from the core mission by adding new licenses.

Keeper of Expired Web Pages Is Sued Because Archive Was Used in Another Suit - New York Times

Link: Keeper of Expired Web Pages Is Sued Because Archive Was Used in Another Suit - New York Times.

The Internet Archive was created in 1996 as the institutional memory of the online world, storing snapshots of ever-changing Web sites and collecting other multimedia artifacts. Now the nonprofit archive is on the defensive in a legal case that represents a strange turn in the debate over copyrights in the digital age.

Beyond its utility for Internet historians, the Web page database, searchable with a form called the Wayback Machine, is also routinely used by intellectual property lawyers to help learn, for example, when and how a trademark might have been historically used or violated.

"information that they had formerly made publicly available didn't stay hidden"

Apparently the case will come to dispute the robot.txt file automation. I am amazed that these sort of cases haven't come upon archive.org previously.

When the studios won't give permission

MikkiLink: Darknet: When the studios won't give permission.

JD Lasica has documented his experiences asking movie studios for permission to include small clips of movies in a home video he's making with his 5-year-old son.

Paramount declined to answer my written request to use, for a home movie project, 10 seconds from the 1994 film “Forrest Gump”: the scene in which Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump says, “Life is like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you’re gonna get.”

Hello? The guy had fair use rights + he was ready to pay + Forrest gump is made of pieces and clips from movies and news material... Cmon still no permission. Disney is going even further:

we have had to establish a general policy of non-cooperation with requests of this nature!

History's New First Draft More than ever before, citizen journalists provided some of the best coverage on Thursday's London bombings.

Good article of how people use blogs and wikipedia to search for information that newspapers and TV simply can't provide. There is a Creative Commons licensed photo on of people leaving one of the smoked filled trains. Can't see no license with the story though.

I am sorry about the events in London.Terrorism doesn't solve anything. Seems that Blair has to bear the consecuenses of Iraq war on his own soil.
